Phillip
Rowell

With an energetic love for Christ and for youth, Phillip Rowell brings over thirty-six years of experience to Glyndale Baptist Church as our Minister of Music! He has worked as a music minister as well as a youth minister in several churches, leading worship through playing, singing, teaching, and encouraging the church body while reaching out to the lost in the
community. Phillip has a natural talent for music which is evident when you watch him play and sing; his enthusiasm is contagious to those around him. A Master of Arts degree in Teaching plus years of teaching elementary school children is evidenced in Phillip’s strong communication skills and flexibility when dealing with change. To paraphrase a statement he made to our church: “As a group of corporate worshippers with like minds, let’s work together to accomplish the tasks God has given us at Glyndale Baptist Church, including the surrounding community, to
reach the lost for Christ (encounter God), expand our comfort zone (experience growth), and life each other up (encourage the Saints), working as one body in Christ.” We welcome Phillip and his lovely and talented wife, Ashley, as well as their two teenage sons to Glyndale!!

Jerry
Johns

Jerry and Marsha Johns are thrilled to be a part of the amazing Glyndale church family!

Jerry grew up in Nahunta and Douglas, Georgia, graduating from Coffee High School.  After graduating from the University of Georgia, he lived in Central Florida for several years and worked as a television director, editor and producer.
Eventually the Lord relocated him to Fort Worth, Texas where he graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. Jerry has a passion for missions and has been fortunate to travel to many countries helping spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

He returned to Southeast Georgia in 2006 and met his beautiful wife, Marsha, in 2010.  Marsha is a retired Glynn County kindergarten teacher who has lived in Glynn County since 1982.

Jerry and Marsha invite you to visit Glyndale and experience the love of Jesus plus the love of our wonderful congregation!

Pastor Emeritus

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes…” — Romans 1:16

I grew up in a small South Carolina town where I trusted in Jesus as my Lord and Savior. My parents dedicated me to God as a child, and when my pastor, Knox Lambert, prayed God would call a preacher out of our church, I had no idea how personal that prayer would become. I realized God was calling me into the ministry while serving as the Bible Study Leader for the University of South Carolina Baptist Student Union and as a Youth Minister in an area church.

After college I attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky, where I earned my Master of Divinity—and was blessed to meet my wife, Lisa, who also graduated with a Master’s in Christian Education. Together, we served as missionaries with the North American Mission Board in New York, before God led us back to the South, where I pastored churches in the Carolinas and Georgia.

In 2001, God brought Lisa and me, along with our two sons, to Glyndale. We found our church home and invested our lives in this community. It was a privilege to serve as the pastor of this great church. Now, after more than four decades in ministry, I am humbled to transition into the honorary role of Pastor Emeritus.

While I have passed the baton of day-to-day leadership to another pastor, my love for Jesus and this church has not retired. You will still find Lisa and me here on Sundays—worshipping God, encouraging our leadership, and eager to share in fellowship with you.

When we aren’t at church, you’ll find us spending time with our son and his family here in the community, or traveling to visit our other son and his family wherever the U.S. Navy needs them. In other words – we’ll be with our grand-kids!

Whether you’re visiting or looking for a church home, The Lord is on your side!
